Idiot Box

Sun Mar 22, 2009, 8:21 PM
My latest painting is for Gallery 1988's fifth anniversary show, Idiot Box. There are 100 artists in the show (including my good friends jasinski and melocopter), which looks to be pretty awesome. It opens April 2 and runs through the 23rd. If you are in the LA area, be sure to check it out.

Hi there!
I asked people to recommend some amazing deviants to me who had some great work. You were recommended by someone! If there's anyone you would like to recommend that I look at, let me know!
Thanks!
Kathryn

Mighty Josh, this is Gabe, send me an email, I lost yours

I just wanted to thank you for the favourite, I'm so humbled by your gesture, really. I think you're a great painter and you keep getting better and better with each piece you submit (even though you don't hang out here much); that last painting is really stunning and if this economic recession wasn't affecting me the way it is, I'd buy it and proudly display it on my walls. Good luck on the show, I'm sure it's going to be a killer one.

I really like your work! My kids (8 and 5 y.o. boys) do, too -- they really wanted the squid and the Pwned warriors. I am glad you think I am improving, since I still feel like a hack...

That is just so lovely to hear, thank you so much again. I'm glad both kids and adults can enjoy these silly things I craft, it's quite rewarding to know.

As for your art and the improvement part, you are a perfectionist and that's a good thing. You're great at what you do, don't ever stop.

The more I learn, the more I realize that I have so much still to learn. I have started a little long-distance painting club with some good friends, including a schedule to ensure we keep painting and give each other feedback. I need the prodding, since I went about 5 years without painting, until I resumed last year.

And you work isn't just silly things, it's amazing. I think art is supposed to make an impact on people, which yours totally does. It makes me smile every time I see it.

"The more I learn, the more I realize that I have so much still to learn." <= I couldn't agree more, because I feel the same way about what I do.

The painting club idea sounds wonderful. Sometimes it's hard to find motivation (and/or inspiration) to work on creative things, especially if the daily schedule leaves little time to spare. I might even "steal" this idea and start something similar with some friends, I really like it a lot.

Haha now I'm going to start sounding like a broken record, because I feel that all I've been doing is thanking you, over and over again. But it is sincere. It makes ME smile and believe that I've been doing something right, for once. It's hard to find people who are talented, humble and have more to say than just "cool/awesome/good job" and so forth; also, the fact that you actually took the time to reply in such a kind way makes it even more appreciative. Thank you.

/Zana
