New work

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 8, 2008, 11:14 PM
There is one new painting in my gallery, a second is ready to scan, and the third is, well, it is currently a panel on my living room floor, waiting for the third coat of gesso to dry. I am hoping to get it done in the next few days. Wish me luck.

Excellent, can't wait to see them.

This show is going to be packed! We're gonna have to stack paintings on top of each other.

Oh and what do you mean scan? Do you have a killer drum scanner available to you?

Unfortunately, no. Just a regular flat bed, which works okay for posting online.

But I need to find a place to get them done professionally. If you (or anyone else) has a place in the bay area (especially the south bay) that you know of, that would be great.

So wait, 3 coats of gesso? Then what? Do you sand it?

Yeah, I lightly sand it. I don't try to get an eggshell finish, though.

I slop it on pretty thick, with big ridges from the brush. Then I smooth it out a bit with sandpaper, to get rid of bumps/chunks. Then when using a dry brush, the paint hits the ridges and misses the valleys, and you get a bit more texture to the paint.
